Bible study on hearing God's call in times of uncertainty
Opening Question: When was the last time you felt God asking you to step into the unknown, and what was the biggest obstacle that made you hesitate?
#### 1. The Call to Leave (vv. 1-3) God’s call to Abram was not a suggestion; it was a radical departure. He was asked to leave his country, his people, and his father’s household. For many of us, especially in the context of the immigrant experience or the shifting dynamics between generations, 'leaving' often feels like losing one's identity. Yet, God pairs this command with a promise of blessing. The core of this call is trust in the Provider over the security of the familiar.
#### 2. The Act of Obedience (vv. 4-6) Abram went, as the Lord had told him. Notice that he did not have a map, only a promise. He took Lot, his nephew, and all his possessions. The text highlights that he went out to the land of Canaan. Obedience in the Bible is rarely about having all the answers; it is about taking the next step while holding onto the character of the One who called you.
#### 3. The Altar of Worship (vv. 7-9) Upon arriving, Abram built an altar. This is the hallmark of a life of faith. He did not build a fortress first; he built a place of worship. The Hebrew term for altar is 「place of slaughter (מִזְבֵּחַ, mizbēaḥ, slaughter)」. By building this, Abram acknowledged that his life and his future belonged entirely to the Lord, not to the land he had just entered.
